Young Farmers Face Off with Severe Weather

| |

Check out Hazelnut as he stands for the first time.

We live on a farm most of the time. In cold weather the farm lives with us.

Let me give you a little perspective about these young farmers. This is our weather report for today.

The main characters in this story involve this group of lovelies who are all very pregnant …

And this group of young farmers …

Our plot thickens when two of the six young farmers are left to hold down the farm in the worst of the winter storm. Four of the farmers work are working off site and caring for their own young families.

So who are the heroes holding down this snowy fort?

Young Farmers Working Behind the Scenes

Meet Charity and Zach. You have to see a picture of them in their normal attire otherwise you will not recognize them.

Choring in Subzero Weather

I know it is hard to believe but this is Charity doing chores in the -4 degree weather. Indeed, she looks quite different with all those layers. But that is still her smiling as she completes work in the worst conditions possible.

Feeding grain to the young does
Breaking ice and adding hot water

Charity fed the young does grain and added boiling hot water to their existing frozen water. Further, she teams up with Zach completing this task multiple times throughout the day.

Can you believe she is just 16 years old? Her role on the farm was defined in collaboration with her siblings. My children ages 16-22 have a dream of building their own successful family farm. Above all, they want to work together and raise their families in this context. Simply, this is not my farm. I did not assign her these chores. She does this willingly and on her own to support the vision they have to build their farm. Isn’t that incredible?

New Baby Arrives in the Winter Storm

Sorry, there are no pictures of Zach dressed up as the abominable snow man. Why? Because shortly after I snapped the pictures of Charity, he burst out of the barn shouting for my help. Natasha was kidding. He was milking. So, he needed my help with the delivery.

Hazelnut gets a bath in the sink. He would freeze to death if momma cleaned him up.

Finally, please whisper a prayer for our family as we work in treacherous weather to complete our chores. Bringing you all natural goat milk soap requires great sacrifice, one well worth it to ensure quality products for your skin.

Ecc 3:11 “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. 12 I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. 13 That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God. 14 I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that people will fear him.”
