Six Ways to Prevent Premature Aging
Our society is obsessed with youth. There is no doubt about it. Just look at the headlines. Or, do a google search for ways to prevent premature aging. Article after article touts the latest greatest age defying beauty treatment. Everyone is preoccupied with how to look young.
The inevitably of aging is the elephant in the room. This mammoth is an intrusive fellow. He shows up at awkward times. Need a profile picture? How about a head shot for your portfolio? Maybe you are meeting a friend you haven’t seen in years.
That beast trumpets so loudly everyone must hear it. You look around frantically wondering if they notice the behemoth. Worse yet, will they notice that you and the elephant look the same?
The loud call reminds you there is no fountain of youth. Someday no matter what, age will leave its many marks on your face. This reality tempts us to grow old grumpily.
It is common knowledge that skin conditions are an external expression of an internal condition. For example, eczema stems from an overactive immune system. Triggers are often internal like a food allergy.
Aging and Mindset
The same applies to growing old. Our outward appearance is impacted by our internal state of mind. I am not just talking about being young at heart. Instead, I refer to your mindset about aging.
Have you ever been around an insecure grouch? It’s not a pleasant experience for sure. But have you ever been around a lifelong grouch? Notice how irritability shows up in their facial features. The anger lines emphatically stand out.
Enter a room with a royal grouch and take notice. Her demeanor affects everyone around her. Irritability has a ripple effect.
But what if I told you, we don’t have to grow old like a grouch? Instead, we can grow old gracefully, even beautifully!
Are you in your 20s? Perhaps you think this advice isn’t relevant. Think again. Our bodies start changing in our 20s with a decline in natural antioxidant production. The elephant is definitely in the room already. He will start trumpeting in your 30s. It will get even louder in your 40s. It is never too early to start caring for your skin.
Six ways to Prevent Premature Aging
1) Reduce stress.
It is a well known fact that stress causes premature aging. The humor in the following meme shows we understand the role stress plays in aging.
However, scientific studies also affirm stress impacts the skin causing premature aging. Take action to reduce and eliminate stress today.
2) Eat healthy foods
We may not be able to limit all stressors in life. But, we can take proactive steps by eating nutrient rich foods. Eat a skin-friendly diet. Limit your sugar and eat foods high in antioxidants such as fruits and vegetables. You can also use supplements that compensate for the aging process like collagen and vitamin A.
3) Exercise
Exercise shows up on every list for improving health and well-being. Preventing premature aging is no different. Findings from a few studies suggest that moderate exercise can improve circulation and boost the immune system. This, in turn, may give the skin a more-youthful appearance.
4) Keep well hydrated
Drinking plenty of water is key to vibrant health. Dehydration causes a host of problems like muscle weakness, muscle soreness, fatigue, and headaches to name a few. However, it also leads to skin conditions like acne and premature aging.
5) Moisturize
Pamper your skin by protecting it from the sun as well as moisturizing it. Over time, our bodies lose the capacity to moisturize from within. Eating skin-loving foods helps. But, moisturizing is essential.
6) Use a gentle cleanser to prevent premature aging
As we age our skin becomes more sensitive. Still, incorporating a gentle cleanser in our 20s is a good habit. Goat milk soap is recognized as a perfect, gentle cleanser. It contains high levels of alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs). AHAs modify the skin’s surface improving plumpness. Further, goat milk soap gently exfoliates dead skin, allowing moisture to penetrate more deeply.
Our artisan soap does more than just clean. The colors, design, and delightful fragrance make for a fun shower experience.

It is the kind of pamper-me session that is sure to put a smile on our grumpy Gert’s face.
